About

Founded in 1973 after the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation’s largest family and ally organization.

Our local chapter, PFLAG Cedar Rapids, started meeting in earnest in the Fall of 2010.  We were officially accepted as a chapter of National PFLAG in the Fall of 2011.  Since then we have seen many changes in the landscape of equality and acceptance.  Locally, we collaborate with CRPrideFest and have been instrumental in the onset of the local LGBTQIA+ Resource Coalition.

Are the support groups listed about appropriate for a 14-year-old who is questioning/figuring out his sexual identity/gender identity? My 14-year-old step son has come out to us (his parents) but still has lots of questions, anxiety about who he is. We want to help him navigate this journey but are uncertain where to turn to for help. Please let me know if you have any recommendations for family counselors or therapists or support groups for teenagers.
